Digital Manufacturing Intern
EGGER UK is seeking a highly motivated and technically capable undergraduate to support digitalisation initiatives across our production and technical departments in Hexham. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience within a leading wood-based panel manufacturing environment and to contribute directly to improving operational efficiency through smarter digital workflows.
You will work across multiple functions - including production, maintenance, technical, quality, and support services - to identify opportunities for digital improvement, streamline existing processes, and support the transition from legacy and Excel-based solutions to more integrated Microsoft 365 tools.
This placement is ideally suited to a self-driven individual who is passionate about combining manufacturing knowledge with digital innovation and who is keen to make a measurable impact.

You will:
- Support the delivery of digitalisation and process improvement projects across production departments.
- Analyse current workflows and identify inefficiencies, particularly in manual or Excel-based processes.
- Develop and implement improved digital solutions using for instance Microsoft 365 tools, Power Automate, SQL and Knime.
- Assist in the standardisation and simplification of data collection, reporting, and communication processes.
- Collaborate closely with production, maintenance, and technical teams to understand operational needs.
- Support the implementation of data-driven decision-making tools and dashboards.
- Assist in testing, documenting, and rolling out new digital tools and systems.
- Work with teams to identify practical use cases for Microsoft Copilot and support colleagues in understanding how AI-assisted tools can enhance their daily tasks, productivity, and decision-making.
- Promote awareness and adoption of Copilot capabilities, including guidance on effective use in areas such as reporting, documentation, communication, and workflow automation (within company governance frameworks).
- Provide user support, guidance, and training to colleagues adopting new digital solutions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and help drive a culture of innovation within the site.
- Support teams to explore application cases for Copilot to improve.
Our ideal candidate looks like this:
- Currently in your second year studying towards a degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Process Engineering, IT, Data Analytics, or a related technical discipline
- Strong interest in manufacturing environments and industrial processes
- Demonstrable IT proficiency, particularly in Microsoft 365 applications and a programming language (e.g. VBA, SQL)
- High level of attention to detail and structured working approach
- Analytical mindset with the ability to understand and improve processes
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Self-motivated, proactive and eager to contribute to real business improvements
Experience with Microsoft 365 applications and Knime is desirable - Basic understanding of databases, data structures, or programming concepts
Awareness of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies an advantage
