Head of Warehouse Operations (UK)

We are looking for a Head of Warehouse to lead a culture of safety, quality, service, and continuous improvement within our warehouse operations. As an essential member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of safety policies, warehousing best practices, warehouse design, personnel management, and operational efficiency.

Your Tasks

 

  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, service, and continuous improvement within warehouse operations.
  • Assess current operations and recommend/implement best practices to optimise all aspects of the operation.
  • Plan and develop warehouse layout, product flow, and handling systems to enhance efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain effective safety policies and procedures within the department.
  • Analyse process workflow and implement changes to enhance warehouse operations systems.
  • Manage and develop department personnel in collaboration with the Human Resources department.
  • Initiate and participate in special projects as needed by the Plant Director Logistics.
  • Ensure seamless coordination between Warehouse, Production, Transport, Production/Materials Management, and Customer Services to maximise service levels and productivity.
  • Ensure the highest standards of housekeeping to reduce material damage and customer complaints.
  • Develop and maintain relevant management performance indicators and reports as agreed with the Plant Director Logistics.
  • Develop annual budgets and capital expenditure plans and provide regular reports on actual spends versus budget.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and advise on policy and procedure updates as needed.

 

Our Requirements

 

  • Preferably a diploma/degree in business studies or a professional discipline such as logistics, or equivalent.
  • Full driving licence as some travel will be required.
  • Substantive knowledge of warehouse and distribution operations.
  • Mid-senior management level experience in warehouse management and distribution.
  • Proficiency in Project Management and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Strong understanding of IT-based Warehouse Management Systems and Operations Excellence.
  • Excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook) and IT skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
