Class A CDL Driver

As a CDL Driver at our Timberpak wood recycling plant, your mission is to play a crucial role in promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship through the efficient transportation of recycled wood materials. You will be responsible for safely and reliably delivering raw materials to our facility and transporting processed products from various clients, ensuring that our operations run smoothly and effectively.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.

  • Drive a tractor truck to deliver, exchange, collect, and unload trailers and containers filled with recycled wood to and from Charlotte,  Lexington, and surrounding states of North Carolina.
  • To be responsible for the condition of your vehicle when in use on the road and report any defects or symptoms of defects that could prevent the safe operation of the vehicle immediately.
  • To be cautious when maneuvering vehicle on customer’s property, do a visual check first; i.e. check for manholes, gates, etc.
  • To adhere to any site rules as supplied by the customer.  To be courteous and helpful to customers at all times.
  • To ensure all incidents involving customers/employees' vehicles and/or equipment are reported.
  • Before lifting full skips or hitching up to trailers, check the load is safe and secure.
  • To ensure that vehicles are refueled at the end of the working day.
  • To inspect the vehicle each day as per the check sheet and report any defects immediately.
  • To keep vehicles clean and tidy both inside and out.
  • To be aware of the vehicle height, which is displayed in the cab, at all times.
  • To be professional in appearance and wear uniform as provided.
  • To ensure P.P.E. is worn at all appropriate times.
  • To ensure all safety precautions as detailed in the Health and Safety procedures are taken and that safety equipment is in good order and used at all times.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

 

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE

  • 4+ years of commercial truck driving experience.
  • Wood industry delivery experience preferred.
  • Experience with local commute and delivery routes.
  • Strong verbal communication skills for interacting with customers and team members.
  • Ability to address issues that may arise during transportation, such as delays or vehicle malfunctions.
  • Familiarity with planning and following efficient routes to ensure timely deliveries while considering traffic, road conditions and regulations.  

 

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE

  • CDL License Class A
  • Updated annual medical card
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and safety standards.
  • Vehicle inspections – pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure safe operating condition.

SCHDULE DEMANDS

  • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
  • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
