You will be responsible for or providing a total controls engineering service to the manufacturing process. Maximizing production and increasing cost effectiveness within the company. As well as planning for and meeting necessary and agreed targets in the control/software related areas, while working within agreed financial targets and the regulatory parameters. This role involves maintaining control systems, integrating automation technologies, and ensuring the efficient operation of manufacturing equipment. Additionally, you will play a key role in troubleshooting, analyzing system performance, and identifying opportunities for process improvement. Your expertise will be critical in driving the advancement of automation technologies, enhancing operational efficiency, and maintaining the reliability of control systems within industrial settings.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.
- To coordinate all aspects of the PLC Siemens control system, to operate efficiently and effectively to predetermined and agreed standards, and within budgetary constraints and quality standards.
- To undertake a comprehensive training program, to be able to understand every aspect of the Electrical engineering requirements within PLC Siemens. To operate the company support systems and ensure they are properly used and maintained. To attend any further training / development courses as required.
- To ensure the plant and equipment is fully operational and meets production requirements 365 days per year. To provide support to the manufacturing areas whilst meeting budgetary requirements and within agreed timescales.
- To assist with planning, installation and commissioning equipment as required. To monitor equipment performance.
- To ensure a suitable availability of required essential spare parts, through liaison with the engineering manager and stores manager.
- To assist when requested, with capital project planning and installation.
- To coordinate all control system engineering aspects of Siemens (involving PLC Siemens (Simatic S7-1500), HMI Siemens WinCC, VFD (variable frequency drives: Sinamics, SEW, Lenze) while ensuring compliance with standards and current legislation, are maintained.
- To organize the planning, maintenance and modifications of control systems.
- To provide recommendations to improve plant and efficiency, along with cost effectiveness.
- To communicate, cooperate where required with other group personnel.
- To attend any meetings required as part of the normal duties, including occasional trips abroad.
- To demonstrate professional development by keeping skills up to date and in providing evidence of continuing development.
- To communicate effectively with the Management team in relation to all aspects of the operations, ensuring all issues are communicated in a timely and efficient manner and following the established reporting procedures.
- To operate as a member of a team helping to achieve optimum plant utilization and efficiency.
- To promote Safety, Health, Environmental and quality awareness.
- To ensure that the operation and related tasks are conducted in a safe working manner and that any incidents/accidents and hazards are duly reported.
- To maintain an orderly administrative system for the section, ensuring accuracy in all documentation.
- To ensure induction and safety training for new starters or visitors as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:
- Technical hands-on ability relating to automation hardware and software.
- Understanding of PLC control system architecture and field control devices Siemens preferred, but other will be considered.
- Strong understanding of electrical diagrams.
- Online code monitoring, modification and development.
- Experience in automation control system start-ups, loop tuning, troubleshooting.
- Have training and certification from Siemens as an advantage.
- Programming experience preferably PLC Siemens (Simatic S7-1500), HMI Siemens WinCC, VFD (variable frequency drives: Sinamics, SEW, Lenze).
- Familiarity with ePLAN as an advantage.
EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering or a related field preferred.
- Compensatory closely related work experience required in lieu of degree.
- Valid Driver’s License.
SKILLS:
- PLC Programming: Proficiency in programming languages such as Ladder Logic, Structured Text, or Function Block Diagram.
- Automation Technology Knowledge: Understanding of automation systems and their components.
- Electrical Engineering Knowledge: Basic knowledge of electrical circuits, sensors, and actuators.
- Troubleshooting and Diagnostics: Ability to identify and resolve issues in control systems.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Capability to analyze complex problems and develop effective solutions.
- Data Analysis: Ability to interpret and utilize data to improve the performance of automation systems.
- Communication Skills: Ability to convey technical information clearly and understandably, both in writing and verbally.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a team, especially with other engineers and technicians.
- Project Management: Skills to plan, organize, and lead projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget.
- Knowledge of Safety and Environmental Standards: Understanding of safety standards and regulations applicable in the automation industry.
- Experience with SCADA Systems: Familiarity with monitoring and controlling processes through SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems.
- Continuous Learning: Willingness to stay updated on new technologies and developments in automation engineering.
SCHEDULE DEMANDS:
- General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
- Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sitting, standing or walking for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
- Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
- Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
- Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
