Forklift Operator
The Forklift Operator is responsible for safe and efficient movement, handling, storage, and shipment of materials throughout the facility. Their primary duties include operating forklifts to transport raw materials and finished products, organizing and staging materials, and supporting production and warehouse operations. Forklift Operators may also load finished products onto trucks and railcars for shipment to customers, ensuring materials are handled accurately and securely. They perform routine equipment inspections, follow established material handling procedures, and adhere to all safety protocols and operational requirements. This role requires strong attention to detail, spatial awareness, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team to support a safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing and distribution environment.

Hourly Pay Range: $18.00 - $20.00 depending on qualifications and experience.

RESPONSIBILITES
JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.
- Safely load, unload, move, and stage large wood-based materials and finished products using a forklift.
- Transport raw materials and other materials to designated production and storage areas to support operational needs.
- Load finished products onto trucks and railcars for shipment to customers, ensuring proper placement and secure handling.
- Inspect incoming and outgoing materials for visible damage, quality concerns, and other discrepancies.
- Identify and report material shortages, damages, and quality deficiencies to the appropriate personnel.
- Perform required pre- and post-operation inspections of forklifts and related material-handling equipment.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions, damage, or maintenance and repair needs.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure materials are stored and moved to the appropriate locations.
- Complete required activity logs, equipment inspection records, and other operational documentation accurately and timely.
- Maintain organized work, staging, loading, and storage areas to support safe and efficient operations.
- Follow established material-handling procedures, company policies, work instructions, and safety requirements.
- Actively contribute to maintaining a safe work environment by identifying hazards and following all required safety practices.
- All employees are authorized to stop work when unsafe conditions are present.
- Other duties as assigned.
SCHEDULE DEMANDS
- Standard Operations: 8-hour shifts, M-F; however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8 hours.
- Occasional bending and lifting up to 20 pounds.
- Working inside and outside, and able to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
- Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
- Ability to enter and exit forklift multiple times per shift as well as climb onto and off of forklift.
QUALIFICATIONS
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of two years of experience operating an industrial forklift in a warehouse, manufacturing, or similar environment, preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to safely and efficiently operate a forklift in varying work environments and operating conditions.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety with demonstrated knowledge of safe forklift operating procedures, company policies, and operational guidelines.
- Ability to maintain focus and attention while working independently for extended periods.
- Demonstrates a professional attitude, dependable work ethic, and appropriate workplace conduct.
SKILLS, EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, load capacity limits, stability considerations, and safe forklift operating practices in various environments.
- Basic understanding of forklift mechanics, including routine maintenance, pre- and post-operation inspections, and the ability to identify and report mechanical issues.
- Familiarity with warehouse procedures, inventory management, and material handling practices.
- Understanding of spatial considerations, including maneuvering in confined spaces, stacking and unstacking materials, and safely navigating warehouse layouts.
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Adaptability to changing operational needs, priorities, and work environments.
- Strong spatial awareness and ability to safely maneuver equipment and materials within an industrial environment.
- Must have a valid Driver's license.
