In-House Counsel

The In-House Counsel serves as an independent professional legal contributor responsible for supporting the organization’s legal, compliance, contractual, and governance activities across EGGER North America and its subsidiaries. This role provides practical legal guidance, contract support, compliance oversight, and business-focused legal solutions that support operational effectiveness while helping mitigate organizational risk.

 

The Inhouse Counsel independently applies professional legal knowledge, judgment, and analysis in support of business operations, commercial activities, employment matters, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and contractual obligations. The role regularly collaborates across departments and business functions to support operational and strategic objectives while ensuring alignment with applicable laws, regulations, corporate policies, and ethical standards.

 

This role works closely with operational leaders, Human Resources, Finance, Procurement, Sales, and external legal counsel to support the company’s legal and compliance framework while contributing to process improvement, risk management, and organizational effectiveness.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

JOB FUNCTIONS (Job functions include but are not limited to the following)

  • Draft, review, interpret, negotiate, and manage a broad range of commercial agreements, legal documents, and contractual arrangements.
  • Provide practical legal guidance and support regarding business operations, commercial activities, employment-related matters, vendor relationships, compliance obligations, and organizational risk.
  • Conduct legal research, analysis, and interpretation of laws, regulations, case law, and legal developments impacting company operations.
  • Support corporate governance activities including maintenance of corporate records, legal filings, resolutions, policies, and governance documentation.
  • Assist in identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal, regulatory, contractual, and operational risks.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to ensure legal and compliance considerations are appropriately integrated into operational processes and business decisions.
  • Support the administration and monitoring of compliance programs, policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsel on litigation matters, employment issues, regulatory matters, claims management, and specialized legal issues as needed.
  • Assist with investigations, documentation reviews, internal inquiries, and compliance-related matters while maintaining confidentiality and professional discretion.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of legal processes, templates, governance standards, and compliance procedures.
  • Maintain awareness of changing laws, regulations, and legal trends that may impact the organization and support implementation of necessary changes.
  • May support onboarding, training, or guidance related to legal and compliance processes within the functional area.
  • All employees are authorized to stop work when unsafe conditions are present.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS

  • Office Standard: 8-hour M-F assignment; however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Domestic and International Business travel required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8 hours.
  • Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Working in office and plant manufacturing environments.
  • Reading computer screens or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE

  • Typically, 3–5 years of related legal experience in a corporate legal department, law firm, manufacturing environment, or closely related business environment.
  • Experience supporting commercial contracts, compliance initiatives, employment-related matters, corporate governance, or operational legal functions preferred.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with business leaders and operational stakeholders preferred.
  • Manufacturing, industrial, supply chain, or multi-site operational experience is advantageous.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating with external legal counsel preferred.

 

SKILLS, EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school required.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction required and ability to maintain good standing.
  • Strong understanding of corporate legal principles, contract law, compliance practices, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Ability to independently analyze legal issues and exercise sound professional judgment within established legal and organizational guidelines.
  • Strong written communication, drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and confidential matters with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and business functions.
  • Ability to provide practical, business-focused legal guidance while balancing operational and compliance considerations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and legal research resources.
  • Strong ethical standards and commitment to confidentiality and integrity.
