Mechanical Maintenance Planner
The Mechanical Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating mechanical maintenance activities to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of plant equipment and facilities. This role develops detailed maintenance work packages, maintains equipment documentation, supports reliability initiatives, and provides technical support for maintenance activities. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, proficiency in AutoCAD, and the ability to perform engineering calculations related to load ratings, stress analysis, and mechanical systems design.

RESPONSIBILITIES
JOB FUNCTIONS: (Job functions include but are not limited to the following)
Maintenance Planning & Scheduling: Develop detailed maintenance job plans for preventive, predictive, corrective, and outage maintenance activities.
- Create labor, material, tooling, and equipment requirements for planned maintenance work.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules with operations, engineering, and contractors to minimize downtime.
- Maintain and update equipment records, bills of materials, maintenance procedures, and asset documentation.
- Review maintenance backlog and prioritize work based on safety, reliability, and operational needs.
- Support shutdowns, turnarounds, and major maintenance projects through detailed planning and coordination.
Technical & Engineering Support: Apply engineering principles and calculations to determine mechanical load ratings, stress limits, equipment capacities, safety factors, force and torque requirements, structural loading, and mechanical advantages.
- Analyze mechanical systems and equipment to identify reliability improvements and maintenance solutions.
- Develop and review maintenance repair procedures and equipment modification plans.
- Assist with equipment upgrades, installations, and capital improvement projects.
- Provide technical guidance to maintenance technicians and operations personnel.
AutoCAD & Drawing Management: Interpret, create, revise, and maintain mechanical, structural, and equipment drawings using AutoCAD.
- Develop and modify layouts, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, and maintenance support documentation.
- Verify field conditions and ensure drawing accuracy through site inspections.
- Maintain drawing revisions and support engineering document control processes.
- Support engineering and maintenance projects with technical drafting and design modifications.
Reliability & Continuous Improvement: Participate in root cause failure analysis and corrective action development.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintainability, and maintenance efficiency.
- Support reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), preventive maintenance optimization, and predictive maintenance programs.
- Analyze maintenance data and recommend improvements to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
- Other duties as assigned.
SCHEDULE DEMANDS
- Office Standard: 8-hour M-F assignment; however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
- Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.
- Must be available to support shutdowns, outages, and other planned or unplanned maintenance activities as business needs require.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8 hours.
- Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Working in an industrial manufacturing environment, including exposure to production areas and equipment locations.
- Walking throughout the facility and accessing equipment areas.
- Climbing stairs, ladders, and working in elevated areas as required.
- Reading computer screens or other electronic devices.
- Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
QUALIFICATIONS
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in industrial mechanical maintenance, maintenance planning, reliability engineering, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of industrial mechanical systems, including rotating equipment, power transmission, hydraulics, pneumatics, conveyors, and material handling systems.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), such as SAP, Maximo, or similar platforms.
- SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) experience preferred.
- Experience supporting large-scale maintenance shutdowns and outages preferred.
- Lean Manufacturing, TPM, or Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) experience preferred.
SKILLS, EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS
- Four-year degree preferred or compensatory closely related work experience required.
- Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD with demonstrated experience interpreting, creating, modifying, and maintaining mechanical drawings.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Ability to perform engineering calculations involving load ratings, stress analysis, mechanical advantage, force and torque calculations, structural loading, equipment capacities, and safety factors.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, prioritization, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate with maintenance, operations, engineering, and contractor partners.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
