Mechanical Workshop Team Lead
The Mechanical Workshop Team Lead is responsible for leading and coordinating the activities of the mechanical workshop to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely repair, maintenance, refurbishment, and fabrication of mechanical equipment and components. This position supervises mechanical technicians, lubrication technicians, machinists, and contractors while ensuring quality workmanship, adherence to safety standards, and effective utilization of labor and resources to support manufacturing operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
JOB FUNCTIONS: (Job functions include but are not limited to the following)

- Supervise daily operations of the mechanical workshop, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of mechanical technicians, lubrication technicians, and machinists.
- Plan, assign, and monitor maintenance, repair, fabrication, and refurbishment activities.
- Coordinate workshop priorities with maintenance planners, production teams, and operations management.
- Ensure timely repair and rebuilding of equipment components including pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, motors, and rotating equipment.
- Review work orders, job plans, technical drawings, and specifications to ensure proper execution of work.
- Monitor work quality and ensure compliance with company standards and specifications.
- Manage workshop resources, tools, equipment, and materials to maximize productivity and efficiency and control costs.
- Manage Lubrication Program.
- Coordinate outside contractors and service providers as required.
- Support preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
- Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability.
- Ensure proper documentation of maintenance activities within the CMMS system.
- Assist in planning major shutdowns, outages, and capital improvement projects.
- Monitor workshop performance metrics and recommend process improvements.
- Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure workshop organization.
- Promote a strong safety culture through training, audits, inspections, and corrective actions.
- Other duties as assigned.
SCHEDULE DEMANDS
- Standard Operations: 9-hour shifts, Monday - Thursday, and 6-hours shift Friday.
- On-call as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs, and access elevated work areas for up to 8 hours.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work around noise, dust, vibration, and varying temperatures.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
QUALIFICATIONS
BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 5 years of industrial mechanical maintenance experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience with mechanical equipment, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.
- Experience reading mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Working knowledge of CMMS systems such as SAP PM, Maximo, or similar software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
SKILLS, EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Four-year degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
- Strong leadership and employee development skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Strong organizational and planning capabilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple work assignments and deadlines.
- Knowledge of mechanical maintenance best practices and reliability principles.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
- Knowledge of safe work practices including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, hot work, and machine guarding.
- Ability to build effective working relationships across departments.
