Shift Lead, Production

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and support production employees, ensuring a seamless workflow while mentoring new talent in a fast-paced environment.
The Technical Shift Lead provides day-to-day coordination and hands-on support for production employees within their assigned department and shift. This position supports the Production Supervisor by ensuring that all safety, quality, and production standards are met while maintaining a smooth product flow through the department. The Shift Lead serves as the on-shift training lead for new employees, assists with changeovers and workflow organization, and acts as the department’s primary safety champion.
Schedule: 12-hour rotating 7-7 swing shift (2-2-3) 2 weeks days & 2 weeks nights.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.
Production & Workflow Coordination:

- Lead daily production activities to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of assigned lines or work areas.
- Coordinate product flow, line changeovers, and material staging to minimize downtime and maintain schedule adherence.
- Monitor product quality, line performance, and process consistency; promptly communicate deviations to the Supervisor.
- Assist with basic troubleshooting and ensure issues are escalated appropriately.
- Fill in across various production roles as needed to maintain staffing coverage and line operation.
Training & Employee Support:

- Serve as the primary training coordinator for new employees within the department and on the assigned shift.
- Ensure new employees understand safety requirements, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality expectations.
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and skill reinforcement to maintain consistent performance.
- Assist the Production Supervisor in evaluating training needs.
Safety & Compliance:

- Act as the Safety Champion for the assigned shift and department; model and enforce all company safety policies; Escalate issues or concerns as necessary.
- Conduct and document safety observations, report hazards, and participate in incident or near-miss investigations.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and housekeeping standards are maintained throughout the shift.
Leadership & Communication:

- Serve as the first point of contact for production employees when the Supervisor is unavailable.
- Provides shift leadership coverage during Supervisor absence.
- Communicate daily priorities, performance hen goals, and shift handoffs clearly and accurately.
- Foster teamwork, respect, and accountability among team members to maintain a positive, productive work environment.
Continuous Improvement & Reporting:

- Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency, safety practices, and product quality.
- Participate in problem-solving teams, audits, and improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate shift logs, changeover records, and production reporting as assigned.
General:

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED required; post-secondary technical training preferred.
- Minimum 2–3 years of production experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Prior experience in a lead or trainer role strongly preferred.
SKILLS
- Demonstrated leadership ability with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing operations, safety practices, and quality standards.
- Ability to train, coach, and influence peers in a positive and respectful manner.
- Competent in basic computer skills (SAP experience a plus).
- Strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
SCHEDULE DEMANDS
- Schedule: 12-hour rotating 7-7 swing shift (2-2-3) 2 weeks days & 2 weeks nights.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as needed to support production demands.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, dust, and moving equipment.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, and communicate effectively throughout the shift.
- Sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time up to 12-hours.
- Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
- Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
